What is Decyl Glucoside?
Decyl Glucoside (INCI name: Decyl Glucoside) is a non-ionic surfactant from the alkyl polyglucoside (APG) family, obtained by reaction between plant-derived glucose (from corn or wheat starch) and a C8-C10 fatty alcohol derived from coconut or palm oil.
Function and Properties
- Mild cleansing and foaming agent, usable as a primary or secondary surfactant
- Non-ionic: compatible with most other ingredients (actives, preservatives, anionic, cationic or amphoteric surfactants)
- Low irritating potential for skin and eyes compared to conventional sulfated surfactants (SLS/SLES)
- Biodegradable, plant-derived
- Good foaming and cleansing power, even in hard water
