Lotus Lab Fennel Oil is a macerate: fennel seeds (Foeniculum vulgare) are infused in high-quality sesame oil, then filtered. Important note: this product is not a distilled fennel essential oil—a distinct, much more concentrated product that Lotus Lab does not sell under this reference. Lotus Lab offers it in professional bulk for cosmetics manufacturers, laboratories and developing brands.
A gentle maceration, to be handled with the caution fennel family requires
Maceration extracts the lipophilic compounds of fennel into the sesame oil base, at a concentration far lower than an essential oil. Does this oil carry a particular risk?
An EFSA opinion (2023) notes that fennel's estragole, at high concentration (essential oil), is suspected of being genotoxic/carcinogenic and a sensitizer. This macerate contains a much lower concentration, but remains, as a precaution, reserved for diluted professional use, with a preliminary skin test recommended — see the attached safety data sheet.
