A composition dominated by ricinoleic acid
Castor oil is distinguished by its very high ricinoleic acid content (85-90%), a rare fatty acid that gives it high viscosity and film-forming properties sought after in hair cosmetics. Its saponification index (176-187) and iodine value (82-90) are consistent with published reference values for this oil. Oil obtained by pressing is free of ricin, the toxin remaining in the cake after pressing.

Its thick, film-forming texture makes it a reference active ingredient in hair care (hair, eyelashes, eyebrows), nail and cuticle care, as well as balms and sticks. It integrates equally well as a pure oil phase or in combination with other vegetable oils from the Lotus Lab range.
